I was terrified about the 2023 elections in Virginia. If the Republicans had taken the state Senate and held the House, Governor Youngkin would have been able to do incredible damage to the rights of women and the LGBTQ community. So far, the Democrats have held the Senate and even gained a seat or two. The House isn't all called yet, but the Democrats are leading there, too! I think Virginia is saying "Fuck you, Governor Youngkin!"
And way to go, Kentucky and Ohio. Kentucky re-elected Andy Beshear as Governor, and by a wider margin this time. A Democrat elected to two terms as Governor in a deep red state, imagine that! And Ohio voted to make abortion access a constitutional right. They also voted yes on a marijuana question. Not sure if it's for legalizing medical use or more.
I am definitely feeling better about the future.
I'm also feeling much better post surgery, five weeks later. I missed church on Sunday, but I made it to choir practice tonight! It felt great to be able to sing again. I'm tired and my scar is hurting now, but oh, well. I have to keep working on it.
