2018 American Girl of the Year

Luciana Vega, a STEM girl who wants to be an astronaut and go to Mars. This is the doll I've waited for my whole life, folks. This girl was me at nine. I loved science and space. I knew I could never be an astronaut because of my ear problems, but that didn't stop me from following the space program. I grew up reading about the solar system and our galaxy. There were men walking on the moon the day I was born (August 2, 1971, Apollo 15). I lived and breathed space. Somehow I lost my enthusiasm for studying science. I had a few bad teachers who mocked science and math loving girls. STEM wasn't a thing. I regret letting myself fall behind and listening to the nay-sayers.
This doll is important to me. When I first heard about her, I told my mom I wanted a gift card for Christmas. I got one, and I'm getting an extra card so I can buy her exclusive space suit as well. I was too old for Space Camp when it began, but I know my parents would have moved heaven and earth to send me if I'd wanted to go.
So my American Girl plans for 2018 will be almost entirely Luciana. First, the doll, her space camp jumpsuit and space suit. Later in the year, her accessories, NASA gift bag goodies, her casual space camp outfit, and her telescope. Also, her mini doll when it comes out. The only non-Luci things will be Molly's new Meet outfit and mini doll, and maybe any new Melody or Nanea outfits.
