2017, GET THE FUCK OUT.
2018, please do better. Please. 2017 was a dumpster fire of epic proportions.
I spent today at church, had dinner with Mom and Dad, and then we saw The Last Jedi. It was great, but knowing that it's the last time we'll ever see Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia was unbearable.
I'm dog sitting Giada tonight. I toasted the New Year by watching Anderson Cooper on CNN, and drinking IBC Cherry Limeade. Can't have champagne or any alcohol with the meds I'm taking. I had a touch of the flu after Thanksgiving and the cough lingered up to Christmas. It's better now, but I have to finish the meds course.
Katie and I saw The Shape of Water on Friday. It was a weird and wonderful, terrifying and beautiful film by Gillermo del Toro. It's basically The Creature from the Black Lagoon, where the girl actually falls in love with the Creature! Sally Hawkins is the girl in this case- a mute janitor who befriends, rescues, and falls in love with an amphibian man. She is absolutely brilliant and I will be pissed off if she doesn't get an Oscar nomination. It's a very adult fairy tale- there's a lot of nudity, sex, and gory violence (warning- a cat gets eaten). It's my favorite movie of 2017, and is definitely one of my favorites of the last twenty years. It's already ahead of the LOTR trilogy, Arrival, The Descendants, and The Grand Budapest Hotel...and after I've seen it a few more times it might just knock Atonement out of my number two spot. Maybe it will tie with or even nudge ahead of my favorite- Master and Commander. Maayyyybeee.
