Just got back from Avengers: Age of Ultron. I'll put my early thoughts behind a cut because spoilers, sweetie!
The good:
The Vision. So awesome. Paul Bettany rocks.
Ultron. Damn, James Spader does evil well, even with just his voice and motion capture.
Hawkeye. Liked his family, even if it means no MCU Clintasha. I can live with that. Plus, Jeremy Renner had fun with it. And he got to do so much stuff. More snark. More arrows. He's a blend of 616 and Ultimates Hawkeye for sure. I just hope Laura and the kids don't meet their comic counterparts' fates.
The twins! Pietro and Wanda Maximoff aren't called Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, but we know who they are! ;)
"LANGUAGE!" Oh, Steve.
Vision. Lifted. Thor's. Hammer. No one else could!
Who ya gonna call? HULKBUSTERS! Cool armor. Great battle between Witch-crazed Hulk and Iron Man. "You hit me in the back? Dick move, Banner!"
Quicksilver: "You didn't see that coming?" Hawkeye: "We're fighting robots...and I have a bow and arrow." (to Wanda)"You step out that door, you're an Avenger." Cap: "Avengers, *cut to credits*" Vision: "Well, I was born yesterday."
Vision rescues Wanda! Are we going to get the Vision/Scarlet Witch romance?
New Avengers line-up at the end- Cap, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Vision, War Machine, and Falcon (with Hawkeye apparently on leave, Thor going back to Asgard, and Iron Man taking off on his own...and Hulk taking off for God knows where...).
This brings us to the bad:
Bruce Banner/Natasha Romanov. No thank you. It really weakens both characters. They're better as friends. The romantic angle was forced and I didn't buy it for one second. I hated that bit with Tasha talking about her Red Room "graduation" (i.e., sterilization) and how it made her a monster.
They killed Quicksilver? Why? I don't believe he's really dead, largely because Aaron Taylor-Johnson supposedly has a multi-picture contract, but also because no one really dies in Marvel. Except Spidey's Uncle Ben. :p
Tony's rape joke while trying to lift Mjölnir. "I'll bring back Prima Noctae." Yeah, not cool. That basically means, "as ruler I get to bang all the virgins on their wedding nights."
Too much stuff to take in. Some things got a little bit lost.
But overall, it was great. A lot of fun. And Wakanda is mentioned and seen (sort of), setting us up for the Black Panther movie. Also, the Avengers training facility...hints that there will be even more Avengers coming. Aside from Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers version, yet to be cast), and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who else could we get? My top choices: She-Hulk, Black Knight (what, you didn't see that coming? :p), Monica Rambeau (2nd Captain Marvel, but she's now called Spectrum), Captain Britain, Hercules (not likely to happen), and Sersi (even less likely). They've got to have Starfox show up even if he's not going to be an Avenger, because he's the brother of Thanos. It would make sense to have him somewhere!
Bring on Captain America: Civil War.
Oh, look who tagged along when I went to the movie...
Now the sad news of the day- Grace Lee Whitney, Star Trek's Yeoman Rand, has died at age 85. I had a feeling that she would be the next Trek actor to leave us, but didn't think it would be so soon after Leonard Nimoy. I'm a sad Trekkie tonight.
