I finally let someone convince me to check out Moon Knight. Glad I did! He's been around since 1975, but it's his current book that's getting attention. It's pretty awesome. I've also been reading some of his older comics.
So, Moon Knight. Ex-mercenary Marc Spector turns on his employer while in Egypt and is killed. The locals put him near a statue of Khonshu, the Egyptian moon god. He is brought back to life with the promise that he'll use his life to pursue vengeance when it's needed. He goes back to the States, and sets himself up as a costumed crusader, turning the money he made as a mercenary into a sizable fortune. Now here is where it gets interesting. Marc is a bit, well, nuts. He has what is now called "Dissociative identity disorder (DID)". In addition to his own personality and Moon Knight, there is also Steve Grant, millionaire; and Jake Lockely, street-wise cabbie. Believe it or not, it works for him. He's a solo guy mostly, but he's been a West Coast Avenger and Secret Avenger. He used to have friends who helped him in his endeavors, but as of the latest book, he's gone solo again. This panel explains it:
Yep. Some examples of the suffering- his loyal partner Frenchie had his legs blown off, and Marc's on-again off-again (now permanently off because she married someone else) girlfriend Marlene miscarried their baby after being beaten. Marc is blessed with suck.
He's fucking crazy, but hot. :p And he has a sense of humor, though it's pretty dark.
There's even a baby version of him (a Skottie Young variant cover):
So that's my new addiction. :p Sometimes the comics are pretty violent. I'm surprised there's never been a MAX version of Moon Knight.
