Five years.

This was me, five years ago tonight. I am now an official five-year ovarian cancer survivor! These past five years have gone by fast. The fight isn't over. I still have to check in with my oncologist at least once a year. Not much chance for a recurrence, but I have to look out for secondary cancers. The average five-year survival rates for ovarian cancer, all stages, aren't great, but mine was early stage which put me in the 85-92% range. I'm very happy to be here. A lot of ovarian cancer patients aren't. So I have a bit of survivor's guilt, and I also still have nightmares about surgeries and chemo. A bit of PTSD. But overall, I feel good and hope to be around for a long time!

Me with Luciana, hours after the hysterectomy surgery and finding out I had cancer:

I'm not having a big celebration. No party or anything like that. The only thing I have planned is a day out with my family, including a visit to Tyson's Corner and the American Girl store, and then dinner, either at Maggiano's or Capitol Grille. I'll pick up Kavi and her accessories!

I don't know when I'll go to New York this year, but a long weekend in Virginia Beach is planned, probably in May or early June. Katie is going to Cuba next month, so I'll get ten or eleven days of dog sitting Maisie!
