My virtual follow-up with my oncologist ended up being a photo call due to some technical difficulties at the office. But it was a good phone call- everything is good! No new tumors, no problem with lymph nodes, hernia repairs still holding. Blood work was also good. He's very happy with my progress and has decided to go to once a year visits, unless something comes up. I don't have to go back until December! It really does look like I've kicked cancer's ass.
One interesting note- while looking through my records, I noticed a change. Instead of uterine cancer, it now says endometrial cancer. I guess that's more likely. But I was told at the beginning that it was in the uterus, not the endometrial lining!
A week from this Tuesday is the fifth anniversary of the ER trip that started everything. Two weeks after that, it will officially be five years since my surgery and diagnosis. I can't believe it's been five years. It really was a blur. Two years of surgeries, chemo, and recovery...and then three years of Covid-19. The quarantine really messed things up.
It's still not over. I have to keep up with my yearly appointments, and pay attention to any changes. And even after all this time, I still have surgery and chemo related issues. The port scar still aches every now and then, I get leg pains at night, and still have flashbacks and nightmares. I had a hospital dream just two nights ago. So I know I have some PTSD. Also there's a bit of survior's guilt. I know that some other patients diagnosed around the same time I was didn't make it. I was diagnosed early and I know I'm one of the lucky few to get an early diagnosis.
Very sad national news- Former President Jimmy Carter has decided to stop all medical treatments and is now on home hospice. At 98, he's the current oldest living former President. It will be a sad day when he's gone. He did so much good after he left office.
