October fun.

Mom's birthday was a week ago. We went to see the musical Bright Star at the Riverside. The show has bluegrass music written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell and it was wonderful. The Riverside does such a good job with all of their shows.

I made a pumpkin spice cake with molasses icing. The whole family loved it! I had to give Mom one of her presents a week late- a Halloween cross stitch piece.

Mom's garden is still full of dahlias. I've never seen them bloom this late.

Today, we met my aunt Connie and her husband in Williamsburg for lunch. Sadly, The Trellis closed last year (no more Death by Chocolate!), but its successor, La Piazza, is very good.

Of course we did some shopping. The Christmas Shop is still there with its huge selection of Byer's Choice figures, and there's a tea and spice shop that's fantastic. Mom and I picked out several varieties of paprika, sea salt, and sugars. Also some Mexican oregano, which I love but can't find locally. I also found another Colonial doll for my collection at the Everything Williamsburg shop. It was a beautiful day and we had a good time.

Byer's Choice figures, the new shop, and Virginia, the new addition to my doll collection.

More stuff coming up for October. Still planning a day of driving on the Skyline Drive, and Katie and I might go to a wine tasting Halloween party. If we go, I'm planning an "Awesome 80s" costume!
