After the rioters were finally ousted from the Capitol, Congress went right back to work. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in on January 20th.
Today was a dark blot on our country's history. The Capitol police were largely ineffective because the crowds were so large. There was a lot of damage done- broken windows, trashed offices. One woman was shot and killed (believed to be a rioter), three others died after health emergencies. Given the physical state of a lot of those fools, I'm surprised there weren't more heart attacks.
This is on Trump. He encouraged the rioters with his lies. He. Lost. The. Election. He is insane. He told his followers to march on the Capitol. This is also on Senators Cruz of Texas and Hawley of Missouri for objecting to the Electoral College certification. Both continue to object. They should be removed from office. They are traitors.
I hope things calm down. D.C. has a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew and the National Guard is patrolling the streets. That will help, but those MAGA and Proud Boys freaks are still in the area. I'm afraid this isn't over.
In good news, Georgia now has two Democratc Senators, Ossoff and Warnock! Warnock is the first black Senator from Georgia. Their wins in a runoff election mean that the Senate is now split 50/50 (48 Democrats with 2 Independents, 50 Republicans). With a Democratic Vice President, that means Mitch McConnell is out of a job! He is no longer the Senate Majority leader.
